This is a combined Meetup for the Danish, Swedish and Scandinavian Language groups. Recently for the first time ever, we had people from Norway, Sweden and Denmark at the same Meetup. We have also had people from Iceland, Finland, Antigua, New Zealand, Ireland and Germany plus one or two others with whom I did not get a chance to speak. Everybody was interested in Scandinavia or spoke or was learning a Scandinavian language. A couple of people only spoke English but had Scandinavian partners. We are averaging between 15 and 20 people most months and are hoping for an even better turnout this time. It is free to be a member of Meetup and to attend this event. You are more than welcome to bring guests of any nationality regardless of whether or not they speak a Scandinavian language For more information on the venue, please see http://www.loombar.c o.uk For directions on how to get there, please see our Scandinavian Languages Message Board

Hi All, Well, it's closing in on Christmas so I thought we might want to try to have a meet-up at Harcourt Arms before the end of the year. There is no event booked at The Harcourt Arms on the 28th of November, but they are showing Icehockey from the Swedish Elitserien. If things change, I'll update the info. I have been in contact with the pub and there is no food served during weekends, but there is a Swedish restaurant nearby if anyone gets hungry.
I'll be there from about 3pm as they show the game Farjestad V Sodertalje is playing from 3pm to 5pm. There might even be Swedish glögg available. Directions to The Harcourt Arms can be found here Hope to see you all there! Jörgen Join us at Scandinavian meet-up on facebook

Hi all, I have been asked by our member Hajara to organise a meet-up for a Swedish Stand-up comedy evening on 13/10/09. You will need to contact Hajara (Catherine) through her member details for further information on where and when to meet as I will be unable to attend myself. As the organiser it will show me as attending, however I can not stress this enough, I will not be able to attend. Sorry about the short notice. Two Swedish stand-up comedians, Tobias Persson and Lasse Nilsen, are appearing at the new Scandinavian venue the Pipeline together with two British colleagues, Kate Smurthwaite and David Whitney (Both where at the comedy evening at The Harcourt Arms a few weeks back. From the The Pipeline website you find that Tobias Persson was awarded best male comedian at the Swedish stand up gala in Stockholm in August 2008 and Lasse Nilsen is guaranteed to be one of the most visual stand-up comedians around with a body control which leaves the audience stunned. The tickets cost £5 and can be bought in the bar or on the door. The closest tube station to The Pipeline as far as I can see is Liverpool Street, Aldgate and Aldgate East. Additional information may be posted on here so check back before the meet-up.

Hello All, On the 6th of September Magnus Betner and three British stand-up comedians will perform in The Harcourt Arms. The performance will be in English, even Magnus Betners. I thought it would be nice if we could have a Sunday afternoon picnic in Regents Park to start with and then move ourselves to The Harcourt Arms for some stand-up comedy. If we meet in Regents Park, by the bandstand, at about 14:00 we could have a picnic (maybe something like a crayfish party) and if enough people decide to come I might make a traditional Swedish sandwich cake (no promises). Please bring your own plates, utensils and glasses (plastic/paper) The doors to the Comedy evening opens at 18:00 and it is a ticket-only event. Tickets are £9.00 and can be purchased here. The show starts at about 19:30. Please note that you have to buy a ticket to see the show! I have spoken to Martin at the Harcourt Arms and if the weather is bad we can reserve tables in the beer-garden. There are umbrellas and stuff there if needed. The pub will close at 17:30 so staff can remove chairs and tables but if we reserve tables in the garden we can stay there until doors open again at 18:00. If you RSVP yes please let me know if you are buying a ticket for the stand-up comedy as well. (Some info regarding this meet-up may change but not significantly)
